"Indonesia Act Local Think Global"

Indonesia ‘Act Local Think Global’ Project is initiated and developed by Spotlight Centre for New Media as a serious effort to reduce poverty and building knowledge

The  project  empowers communities in rural remote region’s—in particular youngsters from marginalized households— to raise their voice and improve the quality of life within the communities through *ICT’s and education programs.The village of  Labuan Bajo in the West of Flores Island, Nusa Tenggara Timor (NTT) is the location where the program activities are executed.  Recognized as the regional capital of West Manggarai  and  the gateway to the Komodo and Rinca Islands, acknowledged for their tourism potential and natural beauty. Nonetheless the promise benefits too few in regard to the level of infrastructure, education, health care and economic progress. High rates of widespread malnutrition, infant and maternal mortality where both rural poverty and ‘hot spot’ tourism can be found, describing the two Indonesia's rural and urban.

Mission objectives:  
  1. Providing access to knowledge by unlocking and connecting communities via digital networks (Internet, mobile devices) and Community Development Centres.
  2. Development and implementation of education programs which enhance capacity and communication.
  3. Establishment of a digital library with unlimited access for users.
  4. Development of digital media content: audio books, short video’s, images, websites  to foster greater appreciation and understanding of indigenous communities and their cultural heritage. 
Indonesia "Act Local Think Global" is an ICT Community Development project with a duration of three years commencing from  March 2011 until April 2014.
