VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
For its Indonesia “Act local Think Global Project”, Spotlight is looking for volunteers, mentors or everyone who is interested to share knowledge and contribute to the community. Through interactive sessions and the use of a webcam, people from the local communities in isolated regions can directly communicate with you and others across the globe.
Requirements:
- A computer, web cam, Internet connection
- A Yahoo Messenger account if not: Skype or Facebook
- A few minutes of spare time
EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES
Labuan Bajo in west Flores is the location where the program activities take place. As the regional capital of West Manggarai and gateway to the Komodo and Rinca Islands, the village holds a treasure with its tourism potential and natural beauty. Nonetheless the promise benefits too few in regard to the level of infrastructure, education, health care and economic progress. Widespread malnutrition, infant and maternal mortality where both rural poverty and ‘hot spot’ tours and travels can be found, describing the various backgrounds in where people from the local community have to grow up. In particular youngsters in the midst of change on the threshold of becoming an adult with all the complication it brings considered as those groups who are most vulnerable for social and economic recesses.
Indonesia “Act Local Think Global” encourage youngsters from the age of 12 until 17 to participate in additional education programs aiming to enhancing capacity and communication by learning the basics of Indonesian, English, Dutch language, computer, multimedia and graphic design. The course packs are provided with the support from the local community and specialists in the field of ICT, multimedia, development support an project implementation. The integration of both new media (computer applications, E-books) and the conventional study materials in a manner that they comply to the average level of capacity.
Indonesia “Act Local Think Global” project expands a period of three years commencing March 2011 until April 2014.
